Out on the plains, the wind was blowing. there was a storm coming, he was sure of that. quickly, he began to set up his tent, all the while being battereed by the savage wind blowing across the desert plains, while sand whipped up into the air.
'why did you do this to yourself scorpion? The man said as one of the tent poles got caought on the canvas of the tent, making a small rip in its side. It did not seem important, but once he got the tent finished he found it was. the rip was right on the top of the tent, and even as he watched the tent began to fill with sand. grabbing a patch he brought along for this kind of thing, he quickly selaed the gap. but it wasnt enough. pretty soon the gap had widened. then, as the storm picked up, his desperation grew more intense. in his wild attempt to plug the gap, he hit his head on a tent pole. the last thing he saw before slipping into unconsciousness was sand, slowly filling the tent, and burying him.

DARIUS II

Gadall was marching through the plains when he happened upon the tent, half burried, in the sand. As he drew closer, he could hear the faint cries of someone in need.

Grabbing his shovel from his backpack, he began to feverously dig. After what seemed like an eternity, he reached the bottom of the tent and lifted the door open. Inside he saw a man, well it looked like a man, burried up to his neck. Dried blood and sand stuck to his face. The man began to laugh uncontrollably with the sight of Gadall.

"Is the storm over?", the man said with glee, "Or are you an angel come to take me from this world!". Gadall cleaned the rest of the sand from the strangers body and gave him a long dring from his flask. "Yes for the storm, and no, far from angel status".

VENGENCE

Scorpion was relieved. The laughter had not been because he found something funny, it was because he was relieved. but he knew he was far from safe, as there could be any kind of disease he had caught through his head wound. But things were looking up, now that this man had rescued him

'My name is Gadalll. Are you able to walk'

'Aye, if I must'

'Then let us be off.'

But as soon as they started travelling, it was clear that there was somethigng wrong. the smallest movement caused great pain in his leg, and it was clearly broken. So, instead of continuing on their way, Gadall set up a small camp, and cooked some food he had with him. Gadall decided to ask about how Scorpion had come to be there

'excuse me, but I have saved your life, and do not even know your name. why ae you out here?'

Scorpion sat thinking for a moment. Then, he spoke

'My name is Scorpion .Just yesterday morning I was safe in my cave, where my family have been staying. But I hated living there. Even though I am now 18, my father insists I do not stay out late. So i broke away. I now know that my father was protectiong me from this. But I do not know what direction I travelled in, or how far. I am afraid I shant ever see them again'

With this Scorpion fell silent. Gadall didnt press him, simply continued with the stew. But by the time it was ready, Scorpion had fallen asleep

DARIUSII

Gadall left the warmth of the shelter to think outside under the cool night sky.

While he had no important business to attend to, he knew that Scorpion would be slowing him down, especially with that leg. Once the sun came up in the moring, they would have to make a decision to move slowly, or stay put and let the leg heal.

Gadall heard some movement to his left, quickly he reached for his sword and crouched behind the flap of the shelter. Holding his breath, for fear of making noise, he watched intently as the wind gently carressed the sand.

His eyes had now adjusted to the dark and everything around him seemed to be vibrating. Darting from left to right, his eyes picked up something behind the bu*beep* wasn't large enough to be human, but that meant nothing now a days. The moon was hidden by the lone cloud in the sky "damn my luck", he thought.

Inside the tent, Scorpion began to stir. He called out "Gadall!, are you still there?".

Gadall whispers, "I am outside, but I don't think we are alone. Keep talking as if I am in there with you. I will circle the shelter to get a better view. There should be a small dagger in my pouch. Keep it close to you."

Scorpion shuffled in the shelter, trying to hold back the searing pain shooting up and down his damaged leg. He reached into the pack and wrapped his fingers tightly around the sharp implement. "I can't thank you enough for helping me out back there."

VENGENCE

'That is ok scorpion, it is all anyone would do', said Gadall, as he edged closer to where the noise was coming from.

'yes, but I am implied to thank you anyway my friend', continued scorpion, trying not to gasspt fom his leg pain. as he began to draw the knife, he saw Gadall throw the sword towards the bush.

'HEY!' came a voice. A voice Gadall knew all to well.

'Arnicus, my friend, join us. you know I hate it when you do this! i mean, you could just come up to the tent and greet me normally.'

Scorpion loked confused, and Gadall realised this.

'ah yes. Scorion. meet Arnicus, Arnicus, meet scorpion. Scorpion, Arnicus is my trusted friend'

'Im guessing you two have interesting jobs. I mean, who would sneak up on one anothers friends?'

'you are right' It was rnicus who had spoken. 'you see, we patrol the deserts in case of rulwers crosing the boarder with their armies and takiong our land that makes us potential hostage targets, so e must be careful'

'I see', said Scorion

' I have no life left for me. Please let me join you. train me.'

Arnicus looked at him doubtfully. 'No, you havent gone through the right training.

'well, Gadall is staying with me til my leg heals, so you can teach me'

Gadall nodded at Arnicusses questining look. finally, Arnicus spoke

'very well. Gadall, train him.'

'yes, of course'

Hang on' Scorpion siad. 'how come you are bossing him around?'

because, Scorpion' came the reply. 'thoug h we are friends, i am the boss, and my word is law. now, i an off.

With that he left. Gadall immeadiatly went inside, and at down, thinking about what had just happened.

CHAPTER TWO

Mr. Gornecky [] (12/17/2007 11:40:46 AM) GOOD BAD
Eager to start his training, Scorpion propped himself up on the shelter wall. "I am ready to begin!"

"Easy now", says Gadall firmly, "even though Arnicus is the boss, I still need to test you as to your readiness."

"The testing will begin when you have finally eaten a meal, and had a good nights sleep.", and with that, Gadall presented Scorpion with his meal.

With the young man eating heartily, Gadall wondered if he really was going to be ready for the upcoming trials. His thoughts flashed back to when he himself experienced the difficult tasks assigned to him.

He recalled standing waist deep in the snow, arms free to fend off the attacks. He recalled the sense of urgency he felt when he could almost feel the eyes bearing down on his torso. Not sure from where but fully alert that it was coming. Shadows seemed to dance more furiously. Back to his training when concentration on movement and sound meant everything. Back to a time when he was young, eager and very inexperienced.

Would Scorpion be up to the challenge? If not, was he prepared for the defeat?

Gadall's thoughts were abruptly halted with the clatter of plates. Scorpion and polished off the meal and was stirring restlessly to get his much needed rest.
You (12/17/2007 5:06:25 PM)
Once scorpion was finally asleep, Gadall began to prepare what would be needed for training. firstly he fashioned a sword from two stciks tied together with some rope he made. Once that was done, he took his sword and dug it into the ground, moving round in a circle, until it was complete. he now had a makeshift arena, which he would need in the moorning, once he made another sword he began to think through in his mind what he must do to start the training.
******************************
The next morning Gadall made breakfast, and sat while Scorion ate. Then, once he was finished, Gadall began to talk.
'Right scorpion, we are now master and studnet. you will refer t me as sir. my word is law. now, you see that?' as he said this Gadall pointed out the stick. Scorion nodded
'tright, then pick it up. I have one to. now, we will spar in that arena I have marked out you step outside it you do 50 press ups. you get hit by me you do not cry out, or you will do 25 press ups. if you hit me you get ten minutes rest as an reward. we continue for one hour, you fail to continue for that long and you will not have food tonight'

And so they began. Scorion almost immedietly stepped outside the circle. he did this continually, and Gadall was merciless. eventually Scorion could do no more though, and fell down exhausted. Gadall let him ly there, and sat down to ponder on what he had learnt of scorion in that one session.

Later in the day, as Gadall was preparing the rest of the training area, Scorpion appreared on the horizon with battle sticks in hand.

Beaten, bruised and muscles aching, he threw one of the weapons to his master.

"Sir!, Unless you are too tired, I am ready to fight again!"

A sly grin came across the face of the master, as the stick made contact with his outstretched arms. This was the test that he was looking for out of the young warrior.

Scorpion was different this time. Almost posessed. He moved with swiftness and accuracy. Gadall was unprepared for this and after 10 minutes of intense fighting, felt the sting of the wood snap his bicep.

"I believe that calls for a break", Scorpion announced.

The two sat under some shade and quietly rehydrated.
You (12/27/2007 11:44:09 AM)
finally, Gadall spoke.
'you have done well. but can you keep this up? when we are fghting for our lives, can you kill another human being? can you thrust the sword home?
Scorpion sat quietly, thiking about this question. could he? could henreally take away the life of anotehr? eventually he had his answer
'if they deserved it, were truely evil, then yes, i believe i could.
'very well. we are ready to continue with your training. this includes stabbing pretend dummies, but they look very real. it wil at least see if you are able to do this. pretend the dummy is what stands between you and life. stab it.

and so they continues the training.
